Hello i am having issues on sanding and staining my hardwood floors.
Uneven staining hardwood floors.
In order to properly install hardwood on uneven flooring the floor itself has to be smoothed out.
Wipe the floor down again with an acetone soaked cloth if you can still see uneven colors.
You will need to sand the area that has the uneven stain on it.
Repeat if necessary until the color evens out.
If a recent home improvement project left you with an uneven finish it may be possible to lighten any dark spots and even out the floor s stain.
So if the piece is sanded to 180 you should sand the endgrain to 220 or 320.
This can be done through the use of underlays and re surfacing.
Wipe harder on very dark areas to lighten the stain to match existing lighter areas.
There are a few things you can do to even things out in the future.
Apply stain in the same direction as the grain in 3 to 4 foot sections at a time.
Floors made of maple birch and coniferous woods especially pine or fir are all very difficult to stain evenly.
Don t allow stain to pool on the floor.
Let the stain dry for 30 minutes.
Try to avoid letting the edges dry.
Maple and birch are tight grained woods with very small pores and the density of the pore wall fibers varies drastically.
I won t use it again unless it s some sort of unusual circumstance.
I only used it one time because the homeowners had already mixed up a sample that they liked.
You can also fix uneven stains on hardwood floors by staining it.
Fortunately you can correct this problem with just a little bit of work and some time.
You want to lightly sand.
First you should sand the end grain to one or two grits higher than the rest of the piece.
If your stain looks blotchy or uneven on your floors it was probably caused by poor application technique or poor wood preparation.
Work from the far corner of your room toward the door so you don t step on the fresh stain.
For concrete surfaces sanding and polishing may be required.
Wipe away excess stain from the floor before moving to the next area.
Uneven staining can be a real pain.
Step 1 lightly sand the area.
