I m a firm believer in using what you have on hand and never letting paint go to waste so i grabbed some brown paint i had sitting around sadly with no name and watered it down pretty good so that it was easy to wipe and blend.
Too much light and you won t have an accurate picture of what the piece would look like in a normal indoor setting.
Lighter coats versus heavy spray will prevent the paint from dripping and runs.
If you re going for a rustic look don t worry about being precise with the vaseline.
Semi gloss white general purpose spray paint.
Making it look like weathered wood because there are few things better in this world than that.
Satin rustic orange general purpose spray paint.
Too little light and you can easily end up over distressing your piece and it ll look beat up and unsightly.
I prefer my mouse sander since it ll speed up the process but you can get the same look by hand.
Now for the fun part.
Antique spray paint can give the appearance of a timely patina in just one coat.
Apply a little more in some areas and a little less in others to give it that natural aged over time look.
Work in natural light.
You may notice in the photo below that the paint didn t want to adhere over the edges where the vaseline was applied.
Then spray paint the whole piece.
Metal spray paint that is evenly sprayed on the shiny surface of a metal piece will give it an immediate look of age and charm.
Plain white or a primary color can be roughed up with fine grit sandpaper to give it a weathered look.
